How the Alma Harmony DI Water Filter Works

Most aesthetic laser and IPL systems use water to cool sensitive internal components. These components may include the laser head, flash lamp, rod, flow tubes, and additional cooling pathways. The water pump continuously circulates cooling water throughout the machine to help prevent overheating.

The Alma Harmony DI Water Filter uses ion exchange resin to help remove charged ions and dissolved solids from the cooling water. During the filtration process, the resin captures dissolved minerals such as calcium, sodium, and magnesium.

Additionally, the DI filtration process helps maintain proper electrical conductivity levels inside the machine. Clean deionized water may help reduce mineral buildup, electrical discharge, and premature wear on sensitive internal components.

Why Proper Water Filtration Is Important

If positively charged ions continuously circulate through the machine, they may create electrical static or electrical shock conditions that can damage sensitive electronic and cooling system components.

Furthermore, poor water quality may increase residue buildup inside pumps, flow sensors, cooling lines, handpieces, and additional internal components. Restricted cooling flow or contaminated water may also increase maintenance costs and equipment downtime.

Apart from a particle filter, maintaining the DI water filter in good condition is important for supporting long-term cooling system performance and stable machine operation.

Cooling System Maintenance

The primary function of the Alma Harmony DI Water Filter is to help maintain proper ion balance within the cooling water. However, depending on system design, some cooling water may bypass the DI filter and travel directly through the machine.

For this reason, Parts4Laser recommends maintaining all cooling system components whenever possible. Proper cooling system maintenance may help reduce costly repairs and improve long-term equipment reliability.
