Generally, laser systems use a set of two detectors to measure the amount of energy delivered. One detector sits near the laser head to measure the energy going out, while the other, the calport, measures the energy further down the line of the laser transfer.

Typically, a loss of about 15% of the joules is normal. However, a loss of more than 30% can be a sign of issues with the delivery system or other components.
